And so,mid way through the season – we find ourselves at the last notes of 2018. With no upcoming fixtures until the new year, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of the Shannon RFC committee. To all of our coaches, sponsors and volunteers, thank you for your continued support over the year and we hope 2019 will continue to be as successful as 2018. The support of our members has been fantastic as always and long may it continue, we have lots of exciting events planned for 2019 and are sure that we will keep producing fantastic games across all age groups.

We are again doing our 12 Days of Christmas, keep up with the goings on on our YouTube channel here

AIL Round 9
Shannon 9  UCD 8

A tedious match in diabolical conditions saw Shannon emerge with a win this weekend as we finished the league for 2018.

A deluge of rain welcomed the teams onto Thomond Park’s main pitch with Shannon kicking off. UCD got in for a early 6th minute try when a well timed kick turned our defence allowing their fullback to get over in the corner. The conversion was missed and UCD went 5-0 ahead. This score remained until half time. The u14s girls made their Thomond Park debut at half time and braved the elements to put on a great display along with other teams from our mini’s section.

The second half began with a UCD kick off and after 6 minutes Jake Flannery stepped up to land a penalty and get Shannon on the scoreboard. Again the elements played their part and an uneventful second half was made more lively by another penalty from Jake Flannery on the 72nd minute. Shannon took a late lead which didn’t last long as UCD were back on top after a penalty of their own left them 8-6 up with 6 minutes remaining. Shannon dug deep and kept their composure as they worked the ball down the pitch. A late penalty awarded to Shannon for UCD holding on the ground saw Jake Flannery step up and strike the ball perfectly to steal a late victory for Shannon.

The win sees us in 7th place on the table at the mid way point of the season. We will resume AIL action on the 19th January with an away trip to UCD – again we will be running a supporters and will follow up with more information in the New Year.

Our Underage finished off this half of the season in style with a Christmas Party in Thomond Park. They trained on the back pitch in the morning and were greeted by a very special visitor to the clubhouse afterwards. It was a brilliant morning with great atmosphere – well done to all for organising. Our minis wont be back in action until the 6th of January.

Well done to our U13 Shannon Black team on coming away from their match with Thomond 26-0 victors!
