Presidents Message

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Members of Shannon RFC,

It is both a privilege and an honour for me to address you as President of Shannon RFC. Little did I think that as a young boy from across the road in Mayorstone, that I would be one day the President of this great club.

I would like to welcome all our visiting Clubs and Officials to our Club, for the season 2024/25. We look forward to the tough competitive games during the season and to welcoming you into our Clubhouse for our pre- and post-match hospitality.
The past year has had its ups and downs, where we have had formidable challenges and incredible achievements. We have seen our teams display remarkable skill, determination and resilience on the field. From our senior squads to the youths and minis, the commitment to excellence has been seen in every match played.
But beyond all these ups and downs, it is the sense of community that truly defines Shannon RFC. Our club is not just about Rugby; it’s about fostering relationships, building character and creating a sense of belonging. It is about the parents who tirelessly support their children, the coaches who volunteer their time and expertise and the fans who cheer us on in rain or sunshine.

Our Club is steeped in a rich history and tradition and has always been a beacon of excellence, sportsmanship and community spirit.
Looking ahead, we have ambitious plans for the future. With the investment in our new Gym and women’s dressing rooms in Coonagh, we aim to provide better training for all our players and continue to nurture young talent. We want to ensure that Shannon RFC remains at the forefront of Irish Rugby, not just for our current members, but for generations to come.

I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, whose generosity and belief in our vision make so much possible. Each year we go back to the same sponsors and each year they give Shannon RFC that vital lifeline that, without it, we would not be in the position we are today. We, through our very hardworking Finance committee continue to look for new sponsors.

To our volunteers, your hard work behind the scenes is the backbone of the club. I would like to thank all those who give so generously of their time. Certainly, without their dedication we would not have an incredible facility like Coonagh.
As we embark on the 2024/25 season, let us carry forward the spirit of Shannon RFC – a spirit of unity, excellence and community. Together we wil face every challenge, celebrate every success and continue to build on the legacy of this incredible club.
Thank you for all your support and here’s to a great year for Shannon RFC.

Neil O’Carroll
