This week saw only two senior teams in action with out Senior Firsts and Ladies taking to the pitch. The Firsts lined out against Dublin University in Thomond Park and the Ladies welcomed Tralee to Coonagh. It was opposite fortunes for both as our Seniors were unlucky in their game while our ladies came out on top in theirs.

This weekend sees both sides in action again, our Senior Firsts travel to Cork to take on UCC with our Ladies welcoming Thurles to Coonagh in their League semi-final. Our thirds are also in action in the Gleeson League semi-final as they welcome Kilfeakle to Coonagh. Support for any of the games is most welcome!

This weekend marks the final weekend for entries to the champ or chimp competition, we have plenty of entries so far so if you aren’t already in the draw make sure you have your entry back by this week. The last cut off for accepting forms is the 10th of March. If you would like to enter but don’t have a form, please advise by return email and I will arrange for a form to be organised for you.

We will be running a supporters bus to this weekends Firsts game v UCC, if you are interested in travelling please contact me by return or on 087-9397431.

AIL Round 13: Shannon 24

Dublin University 27

Our Firsts were unlucky not to get a win last weekend when they welcomed Dublin University to Thomond Park’s back pitch. A closely fought contest between both saw Dublin University just pip Shannon after a bruising second half. Tony Cusack bagged two tries on the day with Pa Ryan and Eathon Moloney also getting a try apiece. Fionn McGibney added the rest.

The match remained scoreless for the first 15 minutes with Shannon bagging the first try care of a solid Tony Cusack break from the back of a ruck. Dublin University followed up with a try of their own 5 minutes later, this went unconverted and the score remained 5-7 until they added a second try at the 30 minute mark. Two tries – one a piece were then scored in quick succession in the next three minutes. Dublin University attacked up the middle with their centre eventually dotting down in the corner. This was closely followed by a great Eathon Moloney try also scored in the corner leaving the half time score 17-12.

Dublin University started off the second half with an immediate score gaining a penalty from the kick off. Pa Ryan was the next to get his name on the score sheet, going in for a great try after a strong passage of play from Shannon. There was one point between the sides after 45 minutes. This score stood for another twenty minutes as Dublin University used the momentum built up in a maul to carry them over the line. We remained patient as as the minutes ticked down, Tony Cusack grabbed the ball and powered over the line for his second try of the game. The gap narrowed to 3 points with 3 minutes remaining. As the time ticked by and we entered injury time, we remained in control and were looking dangerous. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be however and the match ended as Dublin University gained possession and kicked the ball out signalling the games end.

The table remains largely unchanged after this round of matches with Shannon still in 7th place. The league continues this weekend with an away trip to UCC. We will be running a supporters bus, if you are interested in travelling please contact me by return or on 087-9397431.

Munster Div 1 Cup Semi-Final: Shannon 20 Tralee 0

Our ladies recorded a great victory over Tralee in Coonagh on Sunday in the Cup semi-final. A fantastic team performance saw the ladies keep Tralee scoreless while amassing 20 points of their own. Julie Ingratta bagged both of Shannon’s tries while Valerie Power was in form with the kicking boot and landed two conversions and two penalties. The Shannon ladies are now through to the Cup final where they will meet Ballincollig.

This weekend sees the ladies back in action again, this time in the semi-final of the league. They will take to the field in Cooangh on Sunday at 1.30pm – all support welcome!
