As we enter October we look forward with anticipation to the AIL commencing for the 18/19 season. The team have put in a fantastic pre-season and are awaiting Saturday’s league opener against Cork Con in Temple Hill.

Unfortunately, the supporters bus is off the road for this match as most opted to drive; but there is sure to be fantastic support on the side-lines this weekend.

The Irish Rugby website have been promoting the league and have published this video featuring Will Leonard ahead of the leagues kick-off.

We have a busy weekend ahead with all of our senior teams in action. All but our ladies take to the pitch on Saturday. As our supporters will be stretched thin this weekend, if you can get out to support any of the teams it will be much appreciated.
Munster Senior Cup Semi-Final
Shannon 9 Garryowen 27

Last weekend saw us unfortunately bow out of the Senior Cup at the hands of Garryowen but it’s safe to say the score did not reflect the performance. A brace of penalties aside made for a stop and start game. Garryowen capitalised well on Shannon errors and came away victorious advancing to the Senior Cup final.

Jake Flannery was on form with the boot, landing three penalties but Garryowen made us pay for indiscipline landing five of their own. Their tries came from a blocked down kick and a push over try in the maul with one converted.

Shannon pushed on until the end but were unlucky not to turn scoring chances into points on the board. All in all it was a disappointing outing but good to see such physicality and enthusiasm at this stage of the season.

As always, Mark Howard from Prisim Media was on hand to document it and a highlight video can be found here!
Donal Walsh Qualifier
Shannon 38 Ul Bohs 0
Our u20s had a comprehensive win over UL Bohs in their Donal Walsh Qualifier match on Saturday. With Bohs suffering low numbers, the scrums were forced to go uncontested from the start but Shannon took control early on. After a brace of tries, we were comfortable at half time and came out in the second half looking confident. The match was blown up after 60 minutes with Shannon emerging 38-0 victors.

Our 20s are back in action this weekend, taking on Old Crescent on Saturday at 2.30. All support is welcome as our Firsts are away to Cork Con in Temple Hill at the same time, and our Seconds are also down to play Cork Con at 5pm on the same day with our Thirds aslo in action.

Underage Round-Up

It was a busy weekend for our underage with plenty going on in Coonagh and other teams taking to the road for Blitz’s.

The sun was shining for our Under 11s and u16s as they made the trip out to Killaloe for the FoleyFest. All of the players had a great day with some great rugby being played. Thanks to Victor, James and all in Ballina/Killaloe for inviting Shannon to the tournament and providing each player with goodie bags.

There was a showdown in Coonagh as both of our Shannon U14s teams met in the U14 League. It was a tough game and both sides played very well with the Shannon Blues coming away as winners.

Our U13s Blues team took on Bruff and came away with a 26-5 victory.

Our U16s girls travelled to Nenagh and put on a good display to come away with the spoils of the game! They take on Fethard this weekend in what’s sure to be another great game!

Our Shannon/Saints U18s will play AJ Rugby, an invitational schools team from south Africa in Grove Island at 6pm this evening. They will be hosting the visitors in o’Driscoll’s Bar afterwards, all welcome!
