This weekend is offering one of the Leagues great fixtures as we step up to our first local derby battle. We welcome Young Munster to Thomond Park at the later time of 8pm. It promises to be a tough game with fantastic atmosphere so make sure you get yourself out in support of the team. We will be holding our usual pre-match function before the game, including a three course meal and match entry for only €25. Spaces are limited so if you would like to go, contact Kevin at hospitality@shannonrfc.com. Pre-booking is essential!

AIL Round 1
Shannon 7 Cork Constitution 27

It wasn’t the start we hoped for; but that doesn’t mean that there was a lack of heart and determination in Cork on Saturday. For the first 40 minutes, Shannon bombarded Cork Con and a Ty Chan try saw us go in at half time 7-3 ahead. Cork Con saw two yellow cards in a high tempo and physical game in which they came back in the second half after captain Niall Keneally bagged two tries. We spent periods camped in the Cork Con 22 but didn’t turn our opportunities into points on the board. A turnover close to our try line cost us, as the Con winger took his chance and darted in for a try. We dominated the final ten minutes of the game and worked our way down the pitch toward the Con line. We were looking dangerous when a Con attacker came off the line a bit too quickly and snapped an intercept, seeing him run in a try from his own line grabbing the bonus point.

It was a bruising encounter but we fronted up and put on a good display. This weekends match v Young Munster promises to be equally as entertaining so come along and cheer on the lads!

Donal Walsh Qualifier
Shannon 50 Old Crescent 0

Our u20s had another good day at the office as they travelled to Rosbrien to face Old Crescent for their Donal Walsh Qualifier. In a lovely conditions, the 20s enjoyed a game of running rugby in which Jack O’Mahoney bagged three tries, Mike O’Gorman – two and Glen Clancy, Alex Harvey, Rhys Tucker also got their names on the score sheet. Ben Daly was on hand to convert five. The match ended prematurely but our 20s were glad of the run out and the result.

Gleeson League
Shannon 33 Garryowen 14

Our thirds were away to local rivals Garryowen this weekend in an entertaining game that saw them bag a bonus point win. As always, it was a tough game but the Thirds dug deep and dominated to come away victorious. Tries came from Jake Elliot, Dara O’Doherty, Billy Supple and Shane Ryan x 2 with Ben Sargent adding the conversions.

The Thirds have a well earned break now after a bumper few weeks of rugby!

Womens Munster League Division 1
Shannon 32 Highfield 0

The Ladies team got back to winning ways this weekend as they welcomed Highfield to Coonagh in the first meeting of the two sides in the Munster League. A hat trick from new comer Julie Ingrata was enough to see Shannon on their way when Lizzy Danagher, Kate McCarthy and Roisin Willis all dotted down to make sure the bonus point was secured. Kate McCarthy also stepped up for kicking duties on the day.

The Ladies are back in action this weekend as they go on the road to Ballincollig.

Our U15s were on the road this weekend as they travelled to Ennis in what was a great game. They came away victorious and will be looking forward to their next fixture!

In a reverse fixture our U13 Blue team welcomed Ennis to Coonagh in the League emerging 22-17 victors.

Our U18s Shannon/Saints team also had a good win over Richmond/UL Bohs on the Canal Bank.

Underage Roundup

Our U16s girls were just pipped by Fethard in whats always a competitive fixture, the girls were unlucky for a finish!
