Jerry Flannery was recognised on the international stage in 2005 when he came on as a replacement against Romania. His rise to international recognition was predicated by his sensational form with Munster. He rejoined Shannon in 2002 after signing for Munster and quickly became a very influential figure in Shannon’s All Ireland league success of the new millennium. After his first cap in the 2005 friendly he subsequently made his full international debut in the Six Nations the following spring against Italy. It was a memorial debut for Jerry as he crossed for a try in the 26-16 victory. He soon became the first choice hooker for the international side, but an ongoing career punctuated with injury prevented him from amassing a larger number of International caps. Recognised as one of the best hookers in the World, Jerry was rewarded with selection to the Lions tour to South Africa in 2009, but cruelly a chipped bone in his elbow ruled him out.
1st Cap V Romania 2005. Selected for the 2007 & 2011 WRC squads.
